We are trying to acclimate ourselves to this new area and apartment. Last night we went to the grocery store, as we told you before, thinking we bought water to make tea this morning. What we bought was soda water so therefore we had fizzy tea this morning. Who would have known. Today we went back to the store to buy water again and got some other funky water that isn't very good water! Next time will probably be Vodka! I now know why you should be able to read the Russian alphabet. I may die of dehydration before I find suitable plain water.
When we got lost last night, we walked by a restraunt. This morning we walked back to it via the grocery store where we made our wrong turn last night. It looked like an ice cream parlor from the outside yet it had a bar in it and a pastry shop. We went inside figuring we could only have dessert. They actually served breakfast off a menu that had English and Ukraine writing in it. We order Americano Espresso (very tasty, I like it better than coffee) and ham and egg omlete, also very good!
Kevin slept like a baby last night snoring as loud as ever. I on the other hand woke up at 11:00pm wishing it was daylight. I should be the one taking a nap right now but Kevin is snoring as loud as ever again!
Thought I would give you an idea of what our apartment is like. I took a picture of the outside so if we get lost again we can remember the surroundings. It all looks the same here.

It's good to hear you are there safe and sound. I think I remember someone saying once look for water with the blue caps for "no gas". Wow those soviets had an eye for beauty! Such beatiful apartments. Well from your picture it looks a lot nicer inside than out. Blessings to you!
Heee-hee. Welcome to Ukraine. All of us have bought that fizzy water. I think it's a right of passage. The easiest thing to do is to look for 'BonAqua' in the light blue lid. It is non-fizzy and BonAqua is available EVERYWHERE - kind of like Aquafina.

"Water with our without gas?"!!!!!
We were asked that (in English) quite a few times while in Russia--now it's a 'family joke' (complete with appropriate Russian accent!!).
Apparently "with gas" is the preferred variety in Russia. :-)
Hope your tea loses its fizz soon!!
Great pics. Glad that you got there safe and are enjoying Kiev. Your apartment looks really nice, way better than anything I've stayed in while in Russia. :-)

Tami told you right! We also used the quick boiling electric kettle you find in most flats and boiled our tap water (As long as it wasn't visibly orange or brown) 4-6 times let it cool in the fridge and used as drinking water. Never got sick once. Have you noticed yet that the food has no preservatives and goes bad within 2-3 days...Don't buy too much at one time!
