The Time is Approaching!

Our plane tickets are purchased, arrangements for Garrett and Morgan have been made, pantry is full, bedrooms organized, septic tank emptied and waiting on furniture! WOW! I can't believe all the things you have to do to go away for a few weeks. I have two overflowing suite cases on the floor of my bedroom. I planned on packing light! I have been throwing my wish list of items into the suite cases. I will go through it all right before we leave. How do you pack light for three weeks? I figure if I can fit it, why not?

One week from today we board the plane! One week from Thursday we will finally get answers to questions we have had for months. Will we get the children we have been asking for? Soon after our appointment we will get to see the children we have been longing for, for 15 months! We hope to update good news very soon. We would appreciate your continued prayers.

It is very hard to pack light, until you've lugged all those suitcases around and ALMOST missed the train!!:0

Have I told you that story?

Things will fall into place when the time comes for leaving.

Have a safe trip!

It is incredibly hard to pack light, but OH so worth it. Especially if you end up traveling any part of this by yourself. Our first trip we took two large and one small suitcase along with three (or four) carry-ons.
The second trip we cut it down to one large and one medium suitcase with two carry-ons. It made the train trips especially, so much more manageable. They don't stop those trains for ANYTHING! ;)
But don't worry. You'll be fine no matter how much stuff you take.
Have a great trip! You'll be in our prayers.

Kevin & Pam,

Having recently returned from this journey with one strong man and 4 (yes, 4) small suitcases and ending up with only 2 on arrival in Ukraine, my advice would be pack as light as possible, carry a change of clothes suitable for the SDA appointment on the airplane(s), and pack as light as possible (I know I repeated that - grin). Many of the roads are cobblestone -
take good walking shoes you will need them. Most of all, enjoy each day, explore, take pictures, and especially journal...oh, and pretend you are on your honeymoon -enjoy the company of your spouse as it may be the last quiet time you have together for awhile. If you have any specific questions/concerns email me. I have friends in Ukraine.

I remember a young couple we got acquainted with on the plane going over--we were on our second trip and were expected to stay at least three weeks.

When we ran into them at baggage claim in Moscow we were shocked to see them both struggling with 6-7 very large pieces of luggage! We helped as best we could but finally had to split up--I always wondered how they managed cause they were going on to Khaz.

One thing we did that might be of interest to you. We each carried on a bag (plus the one personal item you were allowed back then) and packed a large old hard-sided suitcase with the things we were going to donate to the orphanage and along with backpacks for each of our girls so they'd have some form of luggage for the trip home. We also donated the suitcase--and didn't need to lug it back home with us. :-)

Last but not least, remember that the average Eastern European isn't as concerned with wearing a differnet outfit everyday--I managed three weeks with three pairs of slacks, one skirt and about 6 different tops, two pair of shoes, and one winter coat.

Still praying for y'all!

Whooohooo! How exciting. I can say I know something of how you are feeling right now as my hubby and I will be flying to Kiev on November 2. We got the call while in Tennessee with family and came home with 10 days to get ready. Whew! Blessings as you travel. Once we get to Kiev, we will go to the Kherson region. Which region are you heading to?
